Summary

Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed on the Game Boy Advance crams a half‑century of Porsche lineage into a handheld experience. You start in the Evolution mode with the humble 1950 356 and work forward to the sleek 2000 996, unlocking a broad roster that even includes three purpose‑built race cars. The complementary Factory Driver mode throws you into slalom, stunt and sprint events, sometimes pitted against a police car that tries to slow you down. Customization is deep for a GBA title, letting you tweak models with an extensive catalogue of genuine and aftermarket parts. The game also launched a 16‑year exclusive licensing partnership between Porsche and EA, prompting other developers to sneak in Ruf models as a legal loophole, and spawned the online‑only spin‑off *Need for Speed: Top Speed* with three tracks and a handful of turbocharged Porsches.

Storyline

Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed on the Game Boy Advance introduces the series’ first true storyline, called Factory Driver mode. The player’s objective is to earn a spot as a Porsche factory driver by completing a chain of varied events. Each event is announced through a pop‑up window that shows a portrait of a real Porsche team member and a brief description of what comes next. The game also tracks progress, commenting on successes and failures after every race.

Events range from classic sprint and circuit races to more exotic challenges such as slalom courses, timed deliveries with police interference, and stunt runs that require two 180‑degree spins—the first spin leaves the car briefly driving backward. Slalom pop‑ups display the required time and the current team record, and beating the record is optional but noted in the follow‑up screen. When a player sets a new record, the post‑event message highlights the achievement. This mix of racing and skill‑based tasks creates a clear path toward becoming a Porsche factory driver.
