Summary

Mr. Driller 2 drops you into a bright stack of colored blocks you must clear by drilling down. Your Driller—Susumu or Anna—must avoid suffocating, grabbing air capsules that restore a portion of the limited air supply. Standard blocks disappear instantly; falling pieces dissolve any matching cluster they join. Crystal blocks flash briefly before vanishing, giving a neat visual cue.

Beyond the core puzzle, the handheld version adds Mission Driller with set depth targets, Endless Driller that scrolls indefinitely, and Time Attack Driller where every second counts. Brown X‑Blocks consume five drills and 20 % of your air in Mission and Endless, while in Time Attack they just add five seconds to the timer; silver X‑Blocks there cannot be broken. Every 500 ft a giant green block clears everything above it with one hit, spicing up the pressure.

The highlight is a two‑player versus mode that uses a link cable, letting friends battle for the deepest drill. Both systems need their own cartridge, giving the match a nostalgic feel. The game later appeared on the Wii U Virtual Console and the Nintendo Classics service, showing its enduring charm.

Storyline

Mr. Driller 2 (often just called Mr. Driller 2) expands the series' cast with two fresh faces: Puchi, the playful dog that follows Susumu, and Anna, a determined rival who constantly challenges his drills.

The game's story mode, titled Mission Driller, drops the player into one of three initial stages, each set at a different difficulty. The objective is simple—drill down to the required depth while managing air and avoiding falling blocks. After clearing a stage, a short cutscene plays that reflects the character you chose, giving a glimpse of their motivations. Completing all three core stages unlocks a hidden fourth level, adding an extra challenge to the narrative progression.
