Summary
Mega Man Battle Network 3: White Version (often just called White Version) builds on the tactical RPG roots of the series while slipping onto the Game Boy Advance with a few visual polish upgrades. The old Power‑Ups for the MegaBuster are gone, replaced by a Navi Customizer that lets you slot abilities under strict rules, and the chip roster is split into 200 white Standard, 85 blue Mega and 25 pink Giga chips, each limited to four, five, or one per folder respectively. White’s exclusive Giga chip, Balance Y, only appears when you lose a multiplayer match, and the version’s Contest Navi is the quirky MistMan – there’s no extra Navi like Blue’s Punk. Netbattling is accessed through the Comm menu, offering Practice and Real modes, weight classes (Lightweight, Midweight, Heavyweight), chip trading and library comparison; you’ll need to trade to collect all seven stars because White lacks BowlMan. The virus breeder lets you raise friendly viruses with BugFrags, eventually unlocking non‑Navi Omega strains, and the whole package later resurfaced on the Wii U Virtual Console and the 2023 Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection.
Storyline
The year is 200X and Doctor Wily has resurrected the WWW (World Three) with a single goal: to unleash Alpha, a prototype Internet that went berserk after being corrupted by bugs. Alpha is sealed behind firewalls protected by hidden passwords called TetraCodes, and Wily plans to steal them during the N1 Grand Prix, a tournament that masks his true intentions.
Lan Hikari and his NetNavi MegaMan.EXE battle the WWW’s forces as they try to guard the TetraCodes, but Wily, aided by Bass.EXE, manages to obtain the codes and release Alpha. After a showdown that sees Bass defeated, Wily reveals he had previously manipulated Sean Obihiro into forming Gospel and creating the Bass copies seen in the earlier game.
Alpha spreads its corrupted code across the Net, forcing MegaMan to confront the rogue program. Though MegaMan defeats Alpha, the virus attempts to delete everything, pulling both MegaMan and Lan into oblivion. MegaMan overloads his system, sacrificing himself to save Lan, and Dr. Yuichiro Hikari later recovers and revives his son’s NetNavi.
Join MegaMan.EXE, Lan, and their friends as they keep the Net safe from viruses and cyber menaces in MegaMan Battle Network 3 White.
