Summary

The Game Boy Advance version of Medal of Honor: Underground brings the World War II shooter to a handheld, but the hardware struggle is obvious – reviewers noted a very low frame rate that makes the action feel sluggish. Despite the performance hit, the port keeps the core first‑person mechanics: you still hunt for documents, switch between four weapons and even don enemy disguises to slip past guards. New to the series are tank and half‑track battles in three missions, plus occasional friendly AI that fights alongside you. After the main campaign you can unlock the quirky, non‑canonical bonus stage “Panzerknacker Unleashed,” where Lieutenant Jimmy Patterson faces gun‑toting dogs, knights, exploding zombies and robotic units while trying to assemble a helper Panzerknacker. The GBA edition also supports up to four players via the link cable, runs in a true 3‑D environment, and replaces a save system with level passwords you enter after pausing.

Storyline

In Medal of Honor: Underground, the story opens in 1940 when Nazi Germany occupies France and the collaborationist Vichy regime holds power. French Resistance commander Manon Batiste tries to help her brother Jacques, but he is killed during a botched heist, spurring her deeper into the fight. Manon continues covert operations for the Resistance until the American Office of Strategic Services discovers her talents and recruits her. The OSS assigns her a series of missions across North Africa and Europe, targeting the Milice and Nazi defensive and invasion plans.

By 1944, Manon returns to France to take part in the liberation of Paris, driven by a personal vendetta to avenge Jacques’s death. Her actions help turn the tide against the occupying forces and bring the city closer to freedom. The game’s narrative weaves her personal loss with the broader struggle of the Allied effort, highlighting the gritty reality of underground resistance work.
