Summary
M&M's Break 'Em drops you into a bright, tile‑breaking puzzle world that feels a lot like Gem Smashers, but with a candy‑coated twist. You pick one of five colored M&M’s—red, yellow, blue, green or orange—and watch it bounce upward, shattering any crystal that matches its hue while you try to free trapped M&M’s, dodge hazards, and wear down bosses until the nefarious Mr. Runch is finally defeated.
The stages are laid out on a simple map that includes forest glades, underwater caverns and a sunny tropical island, each packed with power‑ups that can speed you up, reverse the controls, detonate matching crystals, grant temporary invincibility or even multiply your time bonus. Skull blocks instantly end a life, lives are scarce, and a ticking clock summons a chasing skull if you linger too long.
A local multiplayer mode lets two GBA owners face off, each with their own cartridge, to see who can break the most crystals across two competitive stages.
As the fifth M&M’s game, it follows the 2001 GBA title M&M’s Blast! and landed in North America on February 6 2007 (UK on July 27 2007). Critics were split, giving the game a mixed reception.
Storyline
In M&M's Break 'Em, a bitter outlaw named Mr. Runch – a rotten peanut who was tossed into the reject bin – crash‑lands on the colorful planet Crunch. Declaring himself "much too bitter" to be an M&M, he vows to become one by trapping the planet’s inhabitants in crystals with a mysterious device. Five brave M&M’s board their ships, blast off, and discover that Runch plans to kidnap them and coat his decayed skin in a special chocolate coating. The heroes battle Runch in a final boss showdown, defeat him, and seal him inside a crystal, freeing the captured citizens. With the villain contained, the M&M’s escape the planet, saving the rest of their candy‑colored friends.
