Summary

Justice League: Chronicles rolls out on the Game Boy Advance as a trio of bite‑size, overhead beat‑'em‑up episodes, each starring a fixed pair of heroes. The first stage lets players flip between Green Lantern’s defensive shield and Flash’s spinning attack, the second pairs Batman with Hawkgirl, and the final pits Superman against Wonder Woman, with real‑time character swapping and a limited set of signature abilities.

Environmental objects such as barrels can be grabbed and thrown, and each episode culminates in a boss fight followed by a brief 3D Mode 7 challenge that adds a faux‑pseudo‑3D stretch to the otherwise flat arenas. A two‑player link cable option lets friends team up, while the hidden Watch Tower Combat Simulator mode lets you assemble unconventional hero combinations outside the story.

Though the concept captures the animated series’ vibe, reviews slammed the game for floaty controls, thin combat variety and bland visuals, consigning it to a largely forgotten spot on the handheld’s library.

Storyline

In the “Dark Winter” stage of Justice League: Chronicles, Martian Manhunter is ambushed by a psychic force in Antarctica. Green Lantern and the Flash investigate a research facility seized by Killer Frost, who is after a black diamond called the Heart of Darkness. The heroes defeat Frost, confront the released Eclipso, and force the entity back into the diamond, noting that darkness in men’s hearts will keep the threat alive.

The “Trial in Ape City” mission finds the League arrested during a UN summit by the primate‑run city’s authorities. Batman and Hawkgirl break out, discover that a shapeshifting creature and the android Amazo are behind the false kidnapping, and learn Gorilla Grodd is orchestrating a coup. After a rooftop showdown, they defeat Grodd and Amazo, freeing the captured leaders and clearing the League’s name.

In “Savage Time”, Superman, Wonder Woman and Martian Manhunter travel into a World War II temporal anomaly created by Vandal Savage. Savage has supplied the Axis powers with advanced tech, threatening the Allied victory. The trio battles on the front lines, uncovers Savage’s hidden base, and stops his final assault, preserving the proper timeline.
