Summary
Jazz Jackrabbit on the Game Boy Advance feels like a fresh spin on the classic side‑scrolling shooter. The game lets you lock onto enemies in any of the eight cardinal directions, and you can even steady your aim while standing still – a neat twist that makes the frantic run‑and‑gun action feel more tactical. Scattered ammo is scarce, so you’ll find yourself hunting for money during each stage; the intermission shops let you trade those coins for fresh rounds or an extra life, adding a subtle resource‑management layer.
Multiplayer returns with a bang, offering eleven distinct levels that support up to four players over a single Link Cable – you only need one cartridge to jump into the chaos. The roster of enemies is a goofy parade of slime‑covered foes, and the new weapons feel surprisingly inventive for a handheld title. GameSpot even crowned it the second‑best GBA release of January 2003, just behind Karnaaj Rally, which says a lot about how well it captured the series’ quirky charm.
Storyline
The game opens with Jazz on a routine mission when the Chameleon army ambushes him on their home world and captures him. After a daring escape, Jazz decides to hang up his badge, but R.A.B.T. HQ refuses, assigning him a new contract to probe a sudden Saurian assault in exchange for a hefty cash reward. Investigation leads Jazz to the Turtle Army, the hidden force behind the Saurian attack. Pursuing them, he runs into his presumed‑dead rival Dark Shell, who now seeks vengeance for his earlier defeat. Along the way, allies such as Zoe Cottontail, Professor Lapin, Spaz and other colorful characters rally to aid Jazz in his intergalactic showdown.
