Summary
James Bond 007: Nightfire on the Game Boy Advance lets you step into a pixel‑perfect version of the suave spy, complete with Pierce Brosnan’s laser‑scanned likeness and Maxwell Caulfield’s voice‑over. The single‑player missions are built around classic Bond objectives: locate the hidden 007 tokens, pull off "Bond Moments" with gadgets, and survive long enough for your health meter—borrowed from GoldenEye 007—to stay above zero, with armor pickups to soften the blows. Every level ends with a score that reflects how cleverly you used the environment and gadgets, rewarding players who explore secret paths or set off explosive tricks. Multiplayer swaps the solo tension for chaotic showdowns, letting you pick iconic villains like Jaws or Goldfinger and battle across film‑inspired arenas such as Fort Knox and the sunken Atlantis set from The Spy Who Loved Me. Though the GBA port earned mixed reviews—averaging around 66/100 on Metacritic—it contributed to the franchise’s five‑million‑copy worldwide tally and even introduced an original song, Esthero’s "Nearly Civilized," to the Bond soundtrack.
Storyline
James Bond 007 – Nightfire opens with the British Secret Service agent investigating a powerful industrialist’s scheme to seize a U.S. defence satellite. Bond teams up with French intelligence operative Dominique Paradis to stop a terrorist group from detonating a stolen nuclear device in Paris on New Year’s Eve, and the pair celebrate the successful thwarting of the attack on New Year’s Day.
Back at MI6, M informs Bond that a missile‑guidance chip meant for the Space Defense Platform (SDP) has been stolen and suspects Phoenix International, owned by Raphael Drake, is behind it. Bond infiltrates a party at Drake’s Austrian castle, meets CIA contact Zoe Nightshade, and discovers Dominique working undercover as Drake’s mistress. After overhearing a plot codenamed “Nightfire,” Bond rescues Zoe, recovers the chip and escapes the mountain with Q’s assistance.
The chase moves to Japan, where Drake’s men kill the informant Alexander Mayhew and betray Bond’s ally Kiko. After a showdown at Phoenix’s Tokyo offices and a decommissioned nuclear plant, Bond is rescued by Australian agent Alura McCall and taken to Drake’s private island in the South Pacific.
On the island, Bond and Alura dismantle Drake’s defenses, eliminate his security chief Armitage Rook and Kiko, and discover a missile launch facility aimed at capturing the SDP. Bond pursues Drake onto a space shuttle, sabotages the station, and escapes in an escape pod as the satellite self‑destructs, returning to Earth to reunite with Alura after another victorious mission.
