Summary

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror (often just called The Amazing Mirror) turns the Game Boy Advance into a sprawling, Metroidvania‑style playground. Instead of a linear run‑through, the Mirror World splits into nine themed zones that you can hop between as soon as you snag the right copy ability, making exploration feel almost like a puzzle in itself. The game also throws in a quirky cell‑phone system that lets you summon up to three extra Kirbys—human or CPU‑controlled—for four‑player co‑op, a first for the series.

New copy abilities spice things up: Cupid lets Kirby glide and fire arrows, Missile turns him into a guided bomb, and Smash borrows moves straight from Super Smash Bros. Melee. Defeating sub‑bosses often rewards these rare powers, while major bosses guard the shattered shards needed to rebuild the Dimension Mirror. Collectibles range from health upgrades and extra lives to music sheets for a hidden sound test and spray paint that lets you recolor Kirby.

Beyond the main adventure, three minigames—Speed Eaters, Crackity Hack, and Kirby’s Wave Ride—offer quick, competitive bursts of fun, each supporting both solo and multiplayer. The title was a joint effort: HAL Laboratory handled art and debugging, Flagship led planning, and Dimps took charge of programming, design, and sound. Critics praised its inventive level design, and the game moved over 1.4 million copies worldwide, cementing its place as one of the GBA’s standout platformers.

Storyline

In Hoshi no Kirby - Kagami no Daimeikyuu (often called Kirby: Mirror World), a mysterious Mirror World floats above Dream Land. Any wish reflected in its mirror becomes reality, but a dark copy of a hidden figure twists the realm into an evil reflection. Meta Knight senses the danger and soars upward to investigate before the corruption spreads.

While Kirby is strolling, Dark Meta Knight appears and slices him into four differently colored Kirbys. The quartet darts after him on a Warp Star, entering the Mirror World where they discover that the real Meta Knight was defeated, knocked into the Dimension Mirror, and his mirror was shattered into eight fragments by Dark Meta Knight. The four Kirbys must gather all fragments to restore the Dimension Mirror and free Meta Knight.

After reassembling the mirror, Kirby confronts Dark Meta Knight, claims the real Meta Knight’s Master Sword, and then battles the true mastermind, Dark Mind. Defeating Dark Mind saves the Mirror World, and Shadow Kirby—its former foe turned ally—bids farewell as the four Kirbys and Meta Knight exit, the Master Sword left behind as a symbol of the world’s protection.
