Summary

Gunstar Super Heroes (known as Gunstar Future Heroes in Europe) takes the classic run‑and‑gun formula onto the Game Boy Advance and pushes the handheld to its limits. You can pick either Red or Blue, each wielding three selectable weapon types and a suite of melee moves that are executed by pressing A or B together with the D‑pad, replacing the old Free/Fixed shot system. Defeating enemies fills a supercharge meter, and once it’s full you can unleash a devastating attack that feels like a true power‑up. The game packs six intense levels, an evil empire to topple, and gigantic bosses that demand every ounce of the new combat options. Critics were overwhelmingly positive—scores in the high‑80s to 90s across the board, an IGN Editors’ Choice, and several "Best GBA Game of E3 2005" nods—yet sales stayed modest, prompting Nintendo Power to repeatedly urge gamers to give it a try.

Storyline

Gunstar Super Heroes (often called Trashman on the GBA) picks up after the original’s climax, where the defeat of the God of Ruin—also known as Golden Silver—triggered an explosion that left four moons orbiting Earth. Years later a mysterious fifth moon appears, signaling a plot to resurrect the malevolent Empire and Golden Silver. The enemies intend to use a powerful crystal to bring the God of Ruin back, and it falls to the new Gunstars to stop them. Red, Blue and Yellow operate under the secret organization The Third Eye; Red is now a female hero, a notable change from the original cast. Together they travel to each moon, thwart the Empire’s revival and reclaim the four Treasure Gems, while the storyline varies with difficulty level and the character you choose.
