Summary

Golden Sun: The Lost Age (often just The Lost Age) takes the GBA RPG formula onto a magical ship, letting you sail between continents while still rewarding foot‑travel and back‑tracking. Puzzles are built around Psynergy, so new spells let you freeze water into pillars or shift terrain.

The Djinn system returns with eleven new spirits per element, reshaping classes, boosting stats and enabling powerful summons. Setting Djinn to standby stores them for a high‑damage Summon Sequence that temporarily amplifies the element, while equipped Djinn alter the Psynergy you can cast.

Battles keep the series’ pseudo‑3D swirl, mixing direct attacks, utility Psynergy and strategic Djinn use. Random encounters and story‑driven fights reward experience, coins and occasional rare items, and a separate arena mode lets you pit custom teams against CPU or friends via link cable.

Critics praised the richer graphics, detailed environments and tougher puzzles, giving the game an 86 % Metacritic score and a spot among IGN’s top GBA titles. It sold nearly 100 000 copies in its first Japanese week and topped 680 000 worldwide, cementing the series as a handheld RPG benchmark.

Storyline

Golden Sun: The Lost Age picks up right after the events of the original game, but this time you play as the former antagonists. The main protagonist is Felix, an eighteen‑year‑old Venus Adept, who is forced to lead his sister Jenna, Jupiter Adept Sheba, and the scholar Kraden on a quest to finish Saturos and Menardi’s plan. Early in the journey they rescue the falsely‑accused pirate Piers and gain his ship, which becomes their primary means of crossing Weyard. Isaac’s party pursues them, believing that restoring Alchemy could destroy the world.

The group’s objective is to light the two remaining Elemental Lighthouses so that Alchemy, the life‑force of Weyard, can return. Their voyage takes them to the hidden oceanic city of Lemuria, where King Hydros explains that Alchemy’s absence is shrinking the continents. Armed with this knowledge, Felix activates the Jupiter Lighthouse, only to be ambushed by Karst, Agatio, and the Mars Star they stole. After rescuing Isaac from the trap, Felix convinces him that Alchemy’s return is essential for the survival of the northern colony Prox.

Together the parties head north, defeat the dragon‑like forms of Karst and Agatio, and retrieve the Mars Star. At the top of the Mars Lighthouse the Wise One appears, warning that humanity could misuse Alchemy, then summons a three‑headed dragon that turns out to be the fused parents of Isaac, Felix, and Jenna, testing the heroes’ resolve. The party slays the beast and finally lights the Mars Lighthouse. With all four towers illuminated, the world’s Alchemy begins to flow back from Mt. Aleph.

At Mt. Aleph Alex, a Mercury Adept, tries to seize the Golden Sun’s power for himself, but the Wise One’s safeguards thwart him and the mountain collapses. The light from the Mars Lighthouse resurrects Isaac’s and Felix’s parents, who join the returning Adepts in Vale. The village and much of Mt. Aleph have sunk, but the Wise One has telepathically ordered everyone to evacuate, allowing a joyful reunion. The game ends with the restored world and its heroes heading home.
