Summary

Goemon: New Age Shutsudou! gives the classic series a neon‑lit makeover, dropping the heroes into a futuristic version of Japan where a supernatural threat looms over the city. Goemon himself looks slimmer with a fresh haircut, while the usual sidekick Ebisumaru is swapped for a shy girl named Ebisu who’s clearly smitten with him, and Yae is replaced by a mermaid‑like character called Yui.

The core of the game stays true to its roots as a side‑scrolling action platformer. You can pick either Goemon or Ebisu, swing their signature weapons, level them up three times, and collect coins as you dash through fairly linear stages that end on a world‑map screen.

Variety sneaks in through occasional shoot‑em‑up levels starring characters like Sasuke, and underwater segments where Yui swims the depths. The title also revives the first‑person Impact sequences from the Super Famicom era, putting you inside a massive, stationary mech that can melee, guard, and fire counter‑laser blasts.
