Summary

Gauntlet / Rampart on the Game Boy Advance blends two very different styles of play into one cartridge. In the Gauntlet half, I dive into a fast‑paced, hack‑and‑slash arena where up to four friends can team up, swapping between exotic magical powers, heavy weapons and combo attacks to carve through endless waves of monsters while hunting for hidden treasure and dodging clever traps. The game rewards quick reflexes and a bit of strategy, because every corridor can hide a new mystery or a sudden ambush. Switching to Rampart flips the focus entirely: I become the commander of a besieged kingdom, repairing crumbling walls, positioning cannons and repelling invading fleets that bombard my fortifications. When the enemy finally lands, I must rally my troops to fend off their assault and, if I hold the line, push outward to capture neighboring strongholds. The contrast between cooperative melee chaos and strategic castle defense makes the handheld experience feel surprisingly varied.
