Summary

Gauntlet Dark Legacy on the Game Boy Advance lets you dive into a classic hack‑n‑slash quest for the 13 rune stones while fighting the evil wizard Garm. Across 27 winding levels—from the Warrior King’s Mountain Realm to icy dwarf caves and scorching deserts—you encounter dragons, golems, chimera and other creatures. Nine power‑ups, such as Speedboost and the anti‑death halo, give you edge as you hunt treasure and dodge traps.

The GBA version adds tactical depth: a slow, heavy strike paired with quick attacks lets you string combos, and a turbo gauge fuels wide‑area or long‑range attacks. If two players stand side‑by‑side they can trigger a combined turbo blast that drains half a gauge each. New moves like blocking, charging like a lance, and strafing keep enemies at bay while you manage an ever‑shrinking supply of items from the shop.

Four brand‑new classes—Dwarf, Knight, Jester and Sorceress—join the classic lineup, each excelling in strength, armor, speed or magic respectively, and secret characters appear via cheat codes. As you explore side paths, you’ll discover legendary weapons and runestones needed to unlock later realms. The blend of frantic melee, strategic combos and hidden rewards keeps the port as lively as its arcade ancestor.

Storyline

Gauntlet Dark Legacy on the Game Boy Advance opens with the jealous mage Garm using the power of thirteen Runestones to unleash the demon Skorne. Skorne crushes Garm, shatters a stained‑glass gateway and hands a shard to each of his powerful minions, while scattering the twelve assembled Runestones across the Eight Realms. The benevolent king Sumner, ruler of those realms, seals the tower’s portals and battles the demon, forcing Skorne to flee into a deserted temple that becomes the Desecrated Temple.

From Sumner’s tower the player explores the eight original worlds, collecting crystals to lower the tower’s protective shield and to restore the stained‑glass window. Defeating each world’s boss restores a fragment of the window, unlocking a portal to the ninth world, the Desecrated Temple, where Skorne is finally slain. The shattered Runestones are then recovered, revealing a portal to the Underworld for a showdown with True Skorne.

After vanquishing True Skorne, Garm absorbs the dying demon’s power, transforms into a colossal statue, and attacks Sumner’s tower. The player must clear the Battlegrounds, find the hidden 13th Runstone, and enter Garm’s Citadel for the ultimate battle that ends the war.
