Summary

Freekstyle on the Game Boy Advance is a stripped‑down version of the motocross arcade hit that first landed on PS2 and GameCube. The handheld adapts the four core modes—circuit races, quick sprints, freestyle tricks, and free‑run exploration—so you can still line‑up jumps and pull off big airs on the go. It packs a roster of real‑world FMX stars like Mike Metzger, Brian Deegan, Mike Jones and Clifford Adoptante, plus pro motocross riders such as Stefy Bau, Jessica Patterson and Greg Albertyn, and even features broadcaster‑turned‑rider Leeann Tweeden as a playable character.

The game’s origins are a bit of a twist: it began life as EA Sports Supercross 2002, but after an E3 2001 demo that highlighted a single freestyle arena and smash‑able windows, the team pivoted toward an over‑the‑top, SSX‑style vibe. That arcade‑first direction carried over into the GBA port, which, unlike its console siblings that earned generally favorable scores, ended up with mixed reviews on Metacritic.

Interestingly, the PS2 version was released in Japan under the title Freekstyle Motocross, where Famitsu gave it a 27/40, hinting that the brand’s high‑octane appeal resonated differently across regions.
