Summary

Flushed Away on the Game Boy Advance captures the film’s chaotic sewer world through a blend of platforming and quirky mini‑games. You hop between Roddy and Rita, navigating hazard‑packed levels that borrow heavily from the movie’s set‑pieces while sprinkling in fresh enemies and secret areas that never made it to the screen. The game’s charm lies in its oddball interludes: a turret that launches golf balls at oncoming foes and a frantic boat chase that feels surprisingly tight on the handheld’s modest hardware. A handful of multiplayer puzzles and shootā€‘ā€˜em‑up challenges add a splash of replay value, though the core experience feels uneven. Critics weren’t kind, slamming it with generally unfavorable scores, yet the title somehow snagged a 2006 Annie Award for Best Animated Video Game, a quirky badge of honor for a title that otherwise struggled to impress.

Storyline

The Game Boy Advance title *Flushed Away* takes Roddy St. James from his Kensington flat into the underground world of Ratropolis after a mischievous rat named Sid flushes him down a toilet. In Ratropolis, Roddy meets the gadget‑loving rat Socketset, who assigns him his first quest: collect a jar of flies. Soon after, Roddy teams up with Rita, who has stolen the Toad’s ruby and escaped on her Jammy Dodger, only to be captured and thrown into the Toad’s freezer before they both break out.

The duo races through the city’s sewers, dodging the hench‑rats Spike and Whitey while completing side missions for Socketset and the prophet rat. Their journey leads them to a clogged drain where, with Charlie Wu’s help, they trigger a catapult that releases a flood, rescuing an orphanage’s children. Later, they battle Le Frog and his frog minions, and later still they help England win a World Cup‑themed "Castle Siege" by eliminating German flags.

The Toad’s ultimate plan is to open a floodgate and unleash a massive wave that would flush all the rats from London. Roddy and Rita thwart this by exposing the plan and forcing the Toad’s hench‑rats to stop him. In the final showdown, Roddy hits three consoles to dodge the Toad’s attacks while Rita disables Fat Barry, Lady Killer and Thimblenose Ted with clever use of lights and wind.

With the hench‑rats defeated, Rita uses a bungee to weaken the Toad’s support beams, leaving him hanging and tongue‑stuck, ending his reign. As the screen fades, Roddy asks Rita to be his first mate; she agrees, and the game closes on a cliffhanger with the words ā€œThe End?ā€.
