Summary
FightBox landed on the Game Boy Advance as part of a multi‑platform push by Gamezlab, who also handled the PlayStation 2 and PC versions. The UK saw its launch on 6 February 2004, right after the BBC television series wrapped up, giving fans a chance to keep the competition alive in their pockets.
The core of the game is an interactive fighting arena where you build and train your own humanoid combatants. It works like a virtual game‑show: you design the look, tweak the moves, then pit your creation against others in a series of televised‑style bouts. The system feels more like a creator’s toolkit than a traditional fighter, letting you experiment with every tweak before stepping into the ring.
What makes FightBox especially quirky is its British‑only release. It never left the UK market, so outside of Britain the title remains a hidden gem for retro collectors hunting for that elusive GBA fighting‑show experience.
Storyline
In the TV show that inspired the Game Boy Advance title FightBox (also known as TrashMan), contestants build custom fighters and send them to the BBC. Hundreds apply, but only sixty are selected for the televised tournament.
The selected warriors not only clash with each other in six distinct game modes—Conquest, Demolition, Duel, Helix, Panic and Revolution—but also must face the six legendary “Sentients”: Banshi, Big George, Kodiak, Nail, Pearl and Vesuvius. After the inaugural series, the champion Kill Frenzy earned sentience and joined the roster, bringing the total to seven.
The final showdown pits two combatants in a straight one‑on‑one battle to decide the overall winner. In the handheld version, players assemble artificial warriors from elemental components, forge and mould them, and fight for the ultimate prize: immortality.
