Summary

Famicom Mini: Mappy hit the Game Boy Advance in 2004 as a straight‑up port of Namco’s 1983 arcade platformer. Nintendo handled the GBA version, but it never left Japan – it was omitted from the Classic NES Series that reached America and Europe. Aside from the cartridge label and a few minor cosmetic fixes, the game mirrors the original Famicom experience, preserving the same scrolling playfield built on the modified Super Pac‑Man hardware. The title’s playful name nods to “mappo,” a Japanese slang word for policeman, and the character’s pink‑clad mouse‑cop‑like look has endured across countless retro collections, from the Namco Gallery Vol. 1 Game Boy bundle to Virtual Console and the modern Arcade Archives releases.

Storyline

In Famicom Mini: Mappy (often just called Mappy), you play as a police mouse on a mission to reclaim stolen goods from a mansion that doubles as a cat gang’s hideout. The gang is led by the hulking red cat Goro—known as Nyamco in the Japanese version—and his blue underlings, the Meowky cats (Mewky in Japan). Each round challenges you to locate and retrieve all ten items the thieves have pilfered. The loot comes in five matching pairs: stereos, televisions, Mona Lisa paintings, computers, and safes. Collecting every pair clears the stage and drives the feline thieves out of the mansion.
