Summary

DRIV3R (known as Driver 3) on the Game Boy Advance packs the high‑octane feel of the console series into a portable cartridge. As undercover cop Tanner, I jump between sleek sports cars, nimble motorbikes, and even speedboats while weaving through the neon streets of Miami, the French Riviera of Nice, and the bustling lanes of Istanbul. The handheld’s graphics surprisingly convey a sense of scale, letting the three cities feel truly sprawling despite the small screen.

The title mixes rapid car chases with on‑foot gunplay, so I’m often sprinting after suspects before sliding behind the wheel for a pursuit. A notoriety system triggers relentless police patrols the higher my chaos rises, and limited ammo forces me to pick fights wisely. Between missions I can drop into “Take A Ride” mode to roam any of the cities without a timer, exploring hidden shortcuts.

Replay tools let me stitch together footage from several camera angles, adding film‑style effects that feel over‑the‑top but fun on the go. Overall, the game’s blend of driving, shooting, and free‑roam captures the spirit of the original series while fitting comfortably in my pocket.

Storyline

Undercover FBI agents John Tanner and Tobias Jones are dispatched in the GBA version of Driv3r to Miami to bust the South Beach cartel led by Calita Martinez. They discover stolen cars being moved and Tanner goes undercover as a wheelman, stealing a rival vehicle to earn Calita’s trust. He is then tasked with killing “The Gator” for betraying the crew.

After The Gator’s apparent death the cartel moves to Nice, France. Interpol agents Vauban and Dubois pressure Tanner to seize the cars, but he refuses. When Dubois is captured, Tanner rescues him and they raid a boathouse, learning the next deal is in Istanbul.

In Istanbul Tanner meets his mysterious employer Charles Jericho, who murders Dubois and frames him. Tanner follows Jericho to a meeting with the Bagman, a middle‑man selling the cars to Russian criminals. The Gator, still alive, bargains for his safety by revealing the deal’s location.

With Jones, Vauban and local police, Tanner tracks the exchange. Jericho kills the Bagman, uses Bad Hand as a decoy, and tries to flee by train. Tanner corners him, wounds him and hands him over, but Jericho shoots back, leaving both men critically injured and setting up Driver: San Francisco.
