Summary
Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart is the third entry in the beloved Monster series, released exclusively for the Game Boy Advance in Japan in early 2003. While Enix handled publishing, the heavy lifting was done by Tose and the game retained the classic Yuji Horii‑directed flavor with art from Akira Toriyama and music by Koichi Sugiyama. The title lets you helm a caravan that can accommodate up to twelve companions—both human adventurers and tame monsters—each wagon respecting weight limits. Humans bring a 20‑class job system (including a brand‑new mapper class that reveals surrounding terrain), while monsters can be merged using "monster hearts" to evolve into stronger forms. The camp evolves into a bustling village complete with an inn and shop, and route‑mapping helps you conserve food on the road. A fan‑translated patch finally let English‑speaking players experience this top‑selling, Platinum‑Award winner, which moved over half a million copies in just three months.
Storyline
In Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart, the story kicks off on Prince Kiefer’s tenth birthday. After sneaking out of Gran Estard Castle and getting caught, he hides in a closet where the masked Master of Illusions, Magarugi, appears and promises a single wish if Kiefer retrieves the Orbs of Loto. The spirit drags Kiefer into Torland, the world of Dragon Quest II, where he immediately encounters a struggling caravan led by Luin, a boy desperate to cure his sick parents. Following their first battle, Luin asks Kiefer to take command of the caravan. Together they trek across the realm, hunting the magical orbs both to heal Luin’s family and to secure Kiefer’s chance to return home to Estard Island.
