Dragon Quest Characters - Toruneko no Daibouken 3 Advance

Summary

Dragon Quest Characters – Torneko's Great Adventure 3 Advance (often shortened to Torneko's Great Adventure 3 Advance) is the Game Boy Advance port of the 2002 PlayStation 2 title. Developed by Chunsoft together with Matrix Software and originally published by Enix (later Square Enix), the GBA version landed exclusively in Japan on June 24, 2004. It carries over the series’ hallmark random‑generated dungeons, turn‑based combat, more than 170 monster varieties, and a huge assortment of items and spells, all spread across a patchwork of towns, villages, castles and both fixed and wandering dungeons.

What really caught my eye was the “addition mode,” which lets you tackle four extra dungeons completely separate from the main quest—perfect for a quick, self‑contained challenge. By 2007 the game had moved nearly 117,000 units in Japan and earned a respectable 32 out of 40 from Famitsu, indicating solid reception among fans of the quirky, loot‑heavy RPG formula.

Storyline

The story of Dragon Quest Characters – Toruneko no Daibouken 3 Advance – Fushigi no Dungeon (Caravan), commonly called Torneko's Great Adventure 3, unfolds seven years after the original Torneko's Great Adventure and six and a half years after Torneko: The Last Hope. Torneko, his wife Tessie, and their son Tipper travel to a distant island to celebrate Tipper’s twelfth birthday.

During the vacation, the island becomes hostile as mysterious forces launch an attack, leaving the family stranded on a strange shore. Torneko is forced to explore a chain of dungeons, battling the threats to protect his loved ones.
