Summary

Dr. Muto for the Game Boy Advance is a quirky platformer that marks the final design credit of legendary arcade creator Ed Logg. The game drops you into a lab‑coated world where the titular scientist wields the Splizz Gun, a multifunctional tool that lets him morph into five distinct creatures, zap foes with lasers, and harvest DNA. Each transformation is tied to collectible isotopes and animal DNA scattered across the levels, encouraging a bit of exploration beyond the usual run‑and‑jump formula. In addition to the morphs, you can equip seven different gadgets that add extra tactical options, from electric shocks to projectile attacks. Critics were split: the title earned a middling 68 % on GameRankings, praised for its inventive mechanics but noted for uneven polish, resulting in a mixed overall reception.

Storyline

Dr. Muto, a mad scientist, built a machine intended to supply free, renewable energy for his home world of Midway. His rival, Professor Burnital, sabotaged the device, causing it to malfunction and wipe out the planet, though Dr. Muto and his laboratory survived the disaster.

Determined to restore Midway, Dr. Muto now seeks to assemble the Genitor 9000, a reconstruction machine. The necessary components are scattered across neighboring planets, requiring the player to gather 4,250 isotopes and 86 bits of terra. Because of design quirks, many isotopes are extremely hard to obtain, and only about 80% of them are actually needed to finish the game.
