Summary
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! landed on the Game Boy Advance in November 2005, bringing the jungle‑hopping adventure to a handheld with a fresh soundtrack by David Wise. Because the cartridge couldn’t hold both the original and new scores, the entire musical backdrop was re‑composed, giving the game a distinct, catchy vibe that reviewers praised even as they missed some classic tunes.
The port shines with vibrant, pre‑rendered sprites that pop on the GBA’s screen, though a few critics noted the colors can look a bit washed out under the backlit display. Gameplay still offers eight worlds, 48 levels, animal buddies, speedboats, hovercraft, and a multiplayer mode, while Dixie’s pony‑tail glide and Kiddy’s water‑bounce keep the platforming fresh. Collectibles such as DK coins and Bear Coins round out the experience, and the title earned solid scores—77 on Metacritic and 75 on GameRankings—reflecting its lasting charm.
Storyline
In Donkey Kong Country 3 (Independent) on the Game Boy Advance, the adventure kicks off when Donkey Kong and Diddy suddenly vanish. Their cousins, Dixie Kong and the infant Kiddy Kong, set out to rescue them, using Funky Kong’s vehicles to reach the mysterious Kastle KAOS, the lair of a robot called KAOS. The duo destroys the robot and discovers it is being controlled by the new moniker of King K. Rool—Baron K. Roolenstein.
The heroes then travel to the extinct volcanic island Krematoa, where they meet the exiled bear Boomer and reactivate a machine that reveals K. Roolenstein’s personal submarine, the Knautilus, leading to another showdown. After gathering all DK coins and receiving a gyrocopter from Funky, they encounter the Banana Bird Queen, trapped behind a barrier cast by K. Roolenstein. By rescuing her five children—solving a Simon‑style memory puzzle for the crystal‑caged child—and completing a trade with the Brothers Bear, they free the Queen, whose song shatters the barrier.
The liberated Queen pursues K. Roolenstein in a hovercraft, drops a massive eggshell on him, and Dixie and Kiddy land on the shell, repeatedly knocking on it and irritating the captured villain. Meanwhile, the Kremlings, now led by the enigmatic KAOS, continue their mischief, having been the ones who originally captured Donkey Kong and Diddy.
