Summary
Disney's Herbie: Fully Loaded thrusts players into a bright‑colored 3D stock‑car world that lets you sit behind Herbie, the infamous Love Bug. Power‑ups litter the roads, hazards pop up unexpectedly, and the game even tacks on free replays of any unlocked race, keeping the arcade vibe fresh.
The circuit lineup totals eight tracks, but the experience stays single‑player—there’s no multiplayer mode to speak of. By scooping up stars strewn across the asphalt you can fire off special tricks that rocket Herbie forward while temporarily slowing rival cars, adding a strategic twist to each lap.
Showcased at E3 2005, the title earned a split reaction. I found the graphics surprisingly crisp—the only thing that truly shone—while critics complained about weak AI and the lack of extra modes. GameSpot’s Frank Provo called it a missed opportunity, noting that even a Lindsay Lohan voice sample could have brightened things up.
Storyline
Herbie: Fully Loaded on the Game Boy Advance puts players into a story mode that mirrors the movie’s basic plot. You control the iconic Volkswagen Beetle as it battles through a series of races to claim the championship title. Throughout the mode, still images taken from the film appear as cut‑scenes, advancing the narrative as you progress. The game is unforgiving: finishing any race outside first place triggers a Game Over screen and returns you to the main menu to start the challenge again.
