Summary
The Game Boy Advance version of Curious George drops you into a colorful, 2‑D rendition of the movie’s adventures. You guide George through 13 straight‑forward levels, using a simple mix of jumps, swings, and slides to navigate bustling environments. Scattered bananas, hidden idols and secret keys keep the core platforming loop fresh, while glowing objects grant Curious Points that unlock extra hats and replayable minigames.
Four distinct minigames punctuate the main trek, including a rhythm‑based dancing challenge and a balloon‑popping test of timing. Even though it mirrors the film’s storyline, the handheld title stands out thanks to its breezy controls and a modest difficulty curve that’s friendly to younger fans.
Among all the ports of the movie tie‑in, the GBA edition earned the highest praise, with critics highlighting its vibrant art and surprisingly tight gameplay for a portable title.
Storyline
Curious George on the Game Boy Advance opens with Ted stumbling on a three‑inch ancient idol deep in an African jungle. Disappointed, he leaves the jungle, handing his yellow hat to George, who follows him onto a cargo ship. On deck, two sailors force George into a dancing minigame before challenging him to an obstacle course. After exploring the ship, George returns to the hold as the vessel reaches its destination.
The adventure continues as George rides atop cars through a bustling city, then sneaks into Ted’s apartment building. He avoids the doorman Ivan’s “no pets” rule, climbs balconies, and enters Ms. Plushbottom’s penthouse, triggering the second minigame. Eventually George and Ted are evicted.
At the museum where Ted works, George slips past security while Junior, the owner’s son, grows suspicious of the monkey. Their antics destroy an Apatosaurus skeleton, getting them kicked out, and they seek refuge in a park, collecting fireflies.
The final stages have George popping balloons with kids, then floating away and navigating the sky while gathering balloons for fuel. Captured by animal control, he’s shipped back to Africa, rescued by Ted, and chases a rat that stole the idol. After a dance‑calming musophobic sailor and a seagull distraction, they recover the idol, solve the African puzzles, and the cutscene shows Ted presenting the larger idol at the museum, highlighting curiosity.
