Summary
Colin McRae Rally 2.0 on the Game Boy Advance squeezes the spirit of the PC/console rally series into a handheld using a Mode‑7‑style scaling engine and texture‑mapped polygon cars. The familiar voice of Nicky Grist, McRae’s real co‑driver, calls out the road ahead, adding a surprisingly authentic rally feel for a 2‑D screen.
The main rally mode drops you into a six‑country championship (Finland, France, Sweden, Australia, Kenya and the United Kingdom), each offering six special stages. You can tweak suspension, gearbox, steering and tyres, and any damage you rack up must be repaired between stages at the cost of precious time. Three difficulty levels – Novice, Intermediate and Expert – let newcomers and veterans alike chase the best times, while single‑stage time trials and practice rallies let you hone a line before unlocking the next country.
When you need a break from gravel, arcade mode hands you six circuit tracks for head‑to‑head races, time‑trial runs or a full championship. The mode supports link‑cable multiplayer with just one cartridge, and the same Mode‑7 graphics give the circuits a smooth, rotating feel. The roster is tight but iconic, featuring the Ford Focus, Mitsubishi Lancer, Toyota Corolla, Subaru Impreza and Ford Puma, all licensed for the GBA experience.
