Summary
The Classic NES Series: Ice Climber brings Popo and Nana back to the handheld world, resurfacing the original NES launch title on the Game Boy Advance via the e‑Reader and later as a standalone cartridge. It’s a neat nod to the early ’80s platforming era, letting a new generation tap the same pixel‑perfect mountain climb that launched Nintendo’s console in North America.
In this portable version, each climber wields a trusty mallet to chip away at the icy blocks overhead, creating the gaps needed to leap higher. The same tool doubles as a weapon against the quirky foes that litter the slopes—polar bears, seals, and even gruff mountain men. The rhythm of breaking, jumping, and timing the mallet’s swing remains as satisfying as ever, preserving the original’s simple yet addictive challenge.
Storyline
Classic NES Series: Ice Climber (often just Ice Climber) follows the duo Popo and Nana, known as the Ice Climbers, as they ascend a series of 32 vertically scrolling, ice‑covered mountains. Their goal is to retrieve vegetables that have been stolen by a giant condor. The climbers must scale the slippery slopes, avoiding obstacles, until they reach the summit where the condor circles overhead, guarding the loot.
