Summary
Playing Cars on the Game Boy Advance throws you straight into Lightning McQueen’s Piston Cup pursuit, but the experience is stripped down to a top‑down isometric track. The camera never spins—it locks onto the car as you barrel through familiar spots like Radiator Springs, Tailfin Pass and Ornament Valley, so each race feels like a compact arcade dash rather than an open‑world roam. The handheld version carries the film’s voice talent, so McQueen’s snappy lines still echo even though the graphics are simple 16‑bit sprites. Helixe handled the GBA build, cramming 19 road races, mini‑games and a handful of Piston Cup finals into a cartridge that fits in your pocket. Critics were split, calling the controls tight but the lack of rotation limiting; still, it’s a nostalgic sprint for anyone who grew up on the Pixar flick.
Storyline
The game Cars on Game Boy Advance follows Lightning McQueen after the first film. It opens with a dream street race that McQueen wins before Sally wakes him. Doc then meets him at Willy’s Butte and teaches a powerslide.
After the lesson McQueen heads to Flo’s V8 Café, where four new racers from England and Mexico challenge him in exhibition events. He completes a tractor‑tipping mission with Mater and then wins his first Piston Cup race at Palm Mile Speedway.
Back in Radiator Springs he trains off‑road with Sarge and receives organic fuel from Fillmore, granting short‑term boosts. Mater teaches him to drive backwards, unlocking a boost‑filling skill. The story then opens Ornament Valley, introduces the Rustbucket Race‑O‑Rama arena, and Mater wins a boost tank for Lightning.
Later the Delinquent Road Hazards gang ambushes Mack and steals McQueen’s parts, revealing they work for rival Chick Hicks. McQueen confronts Hicks in a four‑race showdown that spans each open‑world region, culminating in the Piston Cup finale at Los Angeles International Speedway. Victorious, Lightning becomes the new champion and places the trophy beside Doc’s awards in the garage.
