Summary
Boktai: The Sun Is in Your Hand (or just Boktai) pushes me outside because its cartridge sports a tiny light sensor that measures real sunlight. The gun Del Sol only fires when charged by daylight, so the brighter the sky, the more powerful your attacks. Hideo Kojima designed it as a literal “sun‑powered” adventure.
Before each play session you set the clock and time zone, and the game calculates sunrise and sunset to mirror the sky inside the world. Morning brings chirping birds and a soft orange glow, while darkness lets the Immortals corrupt places like the Solar Tree – which you can heal simply by playing in bright light.
Combat rewards sneaky tactics: shoot a vampire from behind, stun it, then decide whether to finish it or flee. Getting hit triggers a red exclamation and drags down your stage grade, which also factors in time and sun usage.
If your solar battery runs out you must locate a Solar Station or wait for genuine sunshine; even the final boss battle hinges on how much sunlight you’ve gathered, charging the Pile Driver for massive damage. The whole experience feels like a hybrid of RPG, puzzle and outdoor scavenger hunt.
Storyline
Boktai: The Sun Is in Your Hand follows Django, a young vampire hunter who inherits his father Ringo’s legendary Gun Del Sol. Set in the Age of Darkness, the world is plagued by Dark Matter, a corrupting energy that has broken the natural cycle of life and death.
The city of Istrakan, now overrun by Immortals—beings formed from Dark Matter—stands on the brink of extinction. Survivors are turned into undead, and the once‑renowned hunters have all fallen.
Django’s mission is to cleanse Istrakan, destroy the immortal ruler of each area, and avenge his father. He wields sunlight as his weapon, using the solar‑powered gun to purge the darkness and prevent humanity’s end.
