Summary
Bit Generations: Orbital (simply called Orbital) is a Japan‑only puzzle title that later resurfaced on WiiWare as Art Style: ORBIENT. The game drops you into a tiny white star that can survive five hits, and the whole point is to bulk it up by colliding with same‑sized blue stars while scooping up gray ones that become orbiting satellites.
Before each level you pick a galaxy and a stage, then launch your star toward a larger body surrounded by a swarm of smaller stars. Pressing A "attracts" you into an orbit, while B repels you away; the d‑pad lets you pan the camera as you drift between orbits. Speed control is crucial—rush into a ring and you’ll explode, but a gentle approach lets you ride the gravitational pull of larger red stars, which can also serve as temporary highways.
Red obstacles are deadly and ignore attract/repel inputs, so you must steer clear or use a nearby star’s gravity to swing past. When your star grows enough, an orange target appears; snagging it awards a crescent star that grants bonus points and unlocks new galaxies, pushing you toward 100 % completion. Levels wrap both horizontally and vertically, adding a subtle sense of endless space.
Nintendo handed out free copies to Club Nintendo members who owned a GBA or DS, and the game earned mixed reviews in Japan, with Famitsu’s scores hovering around the mid‑range.
