Summary
BIONICLE: Matorn Adventures is a side‑scrolling platform‑puzzle that lets you flip between a fast‑jumping Matorn and a slower, elemental Turaga, a mechanic that instantly reminded me of The Lost Vikings. The GBA title strings together six distinct levels peppered with secret mask pieces; each complete set unlocks a new Matorn, expanding the roster from the starting Kongu to five additional heroes. Turaga aren’t just comic relief – they can be “picked up” to clear lava pools, hit hidden switches or smash obstacles, then follow you onward. The game offers Easy, Medium and Hard settings, and three boss encounters cap the action. Critics praised its charming character‑swap and clever puzzles, but noted the brief length and lack of fresh ideas. Overall, it’s a solid bite‑sized Bionicle experience that captures the Lego line’s cooperative spirit without demanding a marathon play session.
Storyline
Bionicle: Matoran Adventures drops players onto the tropical island of Mata Nui, a paradise divided into six elementally‑themed regions. The aquatic Ga‑Wahi, jungle‑dense Le‑Wahi, icy mountain Ko‑Wahi, underground Onu‑Wahi, scorching desert Po‑Wahi, and volcanic Ta‑Wahi each serve as a distinct level. You control a lone Matorn who must push back an invading swarm of insect‑like Bohrok that threatens the island’s balance. The gameplay follows the Matorn’s trek through each region, battling Bohrok forces and solving simple puzzles to clear the path. While the game’s story pits the Matorn against the Bohrok, the official Bionicle canon later has the heroic Toa defeat the swarm.
