Summary

The Game Boy Advance version of Batman Begins translates the film’s dark debut into a compact stealth‑action adventure seen from a third‑person view. It blends beat‑'em‑up combat with sneaky takedowns, letting you swing between rooftops and slip into shadows as the Caped Crusader.

Batman’s arsenal feels surprisingly deep for a handheld: batarangs, smoke and flash‑bang grenades, plus a High‑Frequency Transponder that summons bats to fill a fear meter. When the meter is full you can finish foes outright or trigger environmental scares—exploding barrels, collapsing crates—to clear a path without a fight.

The game even throws in high‑speed Tumbler chase segments, and after the main story you unlock alternate costumes and a “Gallery of Fear” that showcases bios of the villains you’ve faced.

The original film cast returned for voice work, except Gary Oldman, who is replaced by Gavin Hammon. Critics gave the GBA title mixed marks, landing around 61/100 on Metacritic and earning scores like 5/10 from GameSpot and 7/10 from IGN.

Storyline

Batman Begins for the Game Boy Advance mirrors the film’s plot while adding extra scenes and more than 20 in‑game cutscenes. The opening finds Batman battling thugs in a Gotham building full of explosives; the blast ignites a fire, and after catching Dr. Jonathan Crane, Batman is sprayed with fear gas that drives him into a psychotic frenzy before he leaps from a window. The game then flashes back to Bruce Wayne’s training in the Himalayas with Henri Ducard and the League of Shadows, where he refuses to execute a criminal and ultimately burns the League’s temple to escape Ra’s al Ghul’s plan to destroy Gotham.

Back in Gotham, Bruce establishes a hidden base beneath Wayne Manor and becomes the vigilante Batman, aided by Alfred and Lucius Fox’s technology. He captures mob boss Carmine Falcone, works with Sergeant Jim Gordon, and investigates a stolen microwave emitter that leads him to Crane’s toxin‑laden water supply. After rescuing Rachel Dawes from Arkham Asylum and exposing Crane’s connection to the League, Batman learns that the League intends to vaporize the city’s water using the emitter.

The League’s true leader, Ducard, reveals himself as Ra’s al Ghul and loads the emitter onto a monorail heading for the central water hub. Batman saves Rachel, boards the train, and destroys a section of track with the Tumbler, causing the train to crash and killing Ra’s. With Gotham recovering, Bruce fully embraces his role as Batman, the dark guardian of the city.
