Summary
Barbie as the Island Princess on the Game Boy Advance feels like a breezy party you can slip into your pocket. The game is a faithful GBA port of the 2007 title that spun off from the movie, and it was crafted by the Lithuanian studio Ivolgamus before hitting shelves under Activision’s banner. What grabs me most is the sheer variety – the cartridge packs 28 distinct mini‑games, each pulsing with the film’s music and its colorful cast of characters.
I spend my afternoons hopping from Rosella’s tropical island to the Prince’s coastal castle, and every mini‑game feels like a tiny celebration of the story’s spirit. The controls are simple enough for a handheld, yet each challenge has its own quirky twist that keeps the experience fresh. It’s a charming blend of platforming nostalgia and party‑game chaos, perfect for quick bursts of fun on the go.
Storyline
Barbie as the Island Princess follows the shipwrecked girl Ro, who is raised by a red‑panda named Sagi, an Indian peacock called Azul, and an Asian elephant, Tika, on a tropical South‑Sea island. She grows up with the animals, knows only a lullaby from infancy, and can communicate with her animal family. Ten years later, Prince Antonio of Apollonia discovers her island, rescues her from crocodiles, and invites her to his kingdom to uncover her past. Ro travels to Apollonia with her animal companions, and a romance blossoms between her and Antonio.
In the palace, Antonio’s parents, King Peter and Queen Danielle, disapprove of Ro, especially as a forced marriage to Princess Luciana looms. Luciana’s mother, Ariana, secretly plots revenge by poisoning the wedding cake with a herb that puts the animals into a coma. After a series of betrayals, hidden notes, and a daring rescue by Tika, Ro learns that the flag on the carriage matches her own and that she is actually Princess Rosella of Paladia. The truth is confirmed when Queen Marissa of Paladia arrives, recognizing her long‑lost daughter.
With the poison neutralized and Ariana’s scheme exposed, Antonio proposes to Ro, who accepts. The wedding unites the royal families, and Ro, now fully aware of her heritage, sails away with Antonio, Tika, Sagi, Azul, and Tallulah, beginning a new life as a princess.
