Summary

Banjo-Pilot is a quirky kart‑style racer for the Game Boy Advance where the characters fly tiny planes instead of karts. It repurposes the Banjo‑Kazooie cast—Banjo, Kazooie, Mumbo Jumbo, Jinjo, Humba Wumba, Gruntilda, Klungo and a few others—each with its own aircraft and short storyline.

The game was originally conceived as “Diddy Kong Pilot” back in 2001, featuring only Donkey‑Kong characters and planned for full 3D. After Rare was bought by Microsoft the project was shelved, then revived as a flat Mode‑7 title with the Banjo universe swapped in.

Players can race on 16 tracks that echo locations from the original platformers, collect items, and even gather puzzle pieces mid‑race in a special “Puzzle‑Check” mode. Up to four GBA systems can be linked via a cable for multiplayer mayhem.

Critics praised the bright graphics, catchy sound and tight controls, while noting the level design feels dated. Still, the blend of aerial karting and familiar Banjo charm makes it a memorable, if overlooked, entry in handheld racing.
