Summary

The Game Boy Advance version of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance strips away the console’s co‑op chaos and forces you into a solo trek through the Forgotten Realms. You start as a human male and can pick Fighter, Wizard, or Archer, with an Elven Fighter unlocking after you finish the game once. Unlike the original, there’s no character carry‑over; each playthrough begins fresh, and you can’t jump or use recall potions to zip back to town.

Stat growth follows the D&D 3rd‑edition rules: every four levels grants an ability point to spread among the six core attributes, and experience fuels both gear upgrades and spell learning. The HUD lets you toggle a transparent map, a mini‑map, or turn the map off entirely, keeping the screen clear for the isometric hack‑and‑slash action.

Four difficulty tiers—Easy through Extreme—challenge you to beat the hidden Gauntlet, which unlocks the legendary Drizzt Do'Urden for a New Game Plus run. The town of Baldur’s Gate feels surprisingly alive; you can chat with NPCs, explore houses, and smash barrels for loot, while the ability to save anywhere lets you pause whenever the adventure gets intense.

Storyline

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance on the Game Boy Advance opens on the Sword Coast of the Forgotten Realms, with the heroes Vahn, Adrianna and Kromlech arriving in the city of Baldur's Gate. After a thief ambush in the streets, the city watch brings them to the Elfsong Tavern where bartender Alyth sends them to clear a rat‑infested cellar. The cellar leads to the sewers, a hidden entrance used by Xantham’s Guild, and the trio rescues the missing employee Ethon before confronting the guild’s beholder leader, Xantam, and destroying the Orb of the Undead that has raised zombies in the crypts.

The victory opens a portal that drops the party into the Sunset Mountains, where a dwarf mining village is under drow oppression. After lighting a signal fire to rally neighboring dwarven clans, they storm the mines, slay the drow priestess and free a dwarf Harper who warns that the portals could be used to launch a full‑scale assault on Baldur's Gate. The heroes then battle the ice dragon Ciraxis guarding the mountain portal and step through into the Marsh of Chelimber.

In the marshes they meet the lizardfolk Sleyvas, who points them toward the Onyx Tower, the stronghold of Eldrith the Betrayer. A detour through the Elemental Plane of Water brings them inside the tower, where they fight through hordes of Eldrith’s soldiers, defeat the lizard chief Sess'sth and learn the tragic history of Eldrith’s fall from a celebrated general to a vengeful undead commander.

At the tower’s summit the ghost of Captain Keledon explains that destroying Eldrith will collapse the tower, likely killing anyone inside. The heroes defeat Eldrith, watch the tower crumble, and escape through a final portal into an unknown forest, only to be surrounded by dark creatures as the true mastermind, Sleyvas, reveals his hidden agenda.
