Summary
Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Burning Earth (called Avatar: The Legend of Aang – The Burning Earth in Europe) lands as a direct sequel to the first Avatar handheld title, picking up during the series’ second book. The game hit a surprising range of systems—Wii, DS, PS2, Xbox 360 and, notably, the Game Boy Advance, where it became one of the final releases before the handheld’s sunset in North America and Europe. A demo was even shown at the 2007 San Diego Comic‑Con, teasing a fall launch that would later be followed by Avatar: The Last Airbender – Into the Inferno in 2008. Critics gave the title mixed or average scores on Metacritic, reflecting a solid but uneven translation of the beloved animated world onto a portable screen.
Storyline
Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Burning Earth (often just called The Burning Earth) follows the second season, Book 2: Earth, of the TV series. The game opens with Team Avatar arriving at an Earth Kingdom base where they clash with General Fong, who hopes to trigger Aang’s Avatar State to overthrow the Fire Nation. After beating Fong’s troops, Aang enters the Avatar State and stops the plot.
The heroes then travel to the Earth Kingdom city of Omashu, only to find a Fire Nation flag and the city renamed New Ozai. They rescue Appa and head to Earth Rumble VI, where Aang competes and first encounters the Blind Bandit, Toph, recognizing her as his future earthbending teacher. A swamp exploration yields visions, and the team convinces Toph to join them.
Later, the gang raids a library for Fire Nation plans, battles the Dai Li, and frees Appa from Lake Laogai. They warn the Earth King of an imminent drill attack, sabotage it, and face a showdown with Azula and Zuko. The game ends with Azula plotting her revenge.
