Summary
In Avatar: The Last Airbender for the Game Boy Advance, you can switch between Aang, Katara, Haru, and Sokka, each bringing a distinct weapon and bending style to the fight. The game pushes you to build a balanced team, collect armor, chi, enchanted accessories, and healing potions, then trade gathered resources to artisans for custom gear.
Beyond the familiar firebenders, you’ll clash with quirky machines and a menagerie of animals drawn straight from Book 1, all while uncovering a hidden menace that eclipses the Fire Nation’s ambitions. Mastering new bending abilities feels rewarding, especially as you piece together the intrigue and deception that drive the adventure.
European players might recognize the title as Avatar: The Legend of Aang, and the sequel, The Burning Earth, arrived about a year later, expanding the same elemental fun.
Storyline
In Avatar: The Last Airbender for Game Boy Advance (often called Avatar GBA), Aang and Katara are training at the Northern Water Tribe when they hear that the waterbender Hiryu has vanished. A Fire Nation ship commanded by Prince Zuko attacks the tribe, Katara is captured, and Aang and Sokka give chase, only to be slowed by a fire‑bending machine before reaching an Earth Kingdom port. They break into a jail, free Katara, and learn about Lian the Maker, a captive forced to construct machines for the Fire Nation. The heroes discover Lian’s empty cell and a map leading to an Earth Kingdom village under siege by those machines. After rescuing Haru and learning that his friend Yuan was kidnapped, they consult the Omashu library, which points them to an uncharted island where Lian fears Aang won’t master all four elements before Sozin’s comet. Aang refuses to aid her, Lian launches a machine, and the group flees to the Air Temple, only to be captured again by another contraption. Aang breaks free, rescues his friends, and finds Prince Zuko also trapped by a machine. Zuko attacks but is knocked over a cliff and swept away. Inside a fortress they finally confront Lian, who is finishing a massive machine operated by the missing Hiryu, Yuan and an unnamed firebender. When Lian tries to attach Aang, he battles the device; Katara is struck, triggering Aang’s Avatar State. He shatters the machine, burying Lian beneath the rubble (though she survives in portable versions of the game). The story ends with a furious Zuko crawling up the shoreline, having failed to capture the Avatar.
