Summary
Asterix & Obelix XXL on the Game Boy Advance lets you bounce between the two heroes without a button press, letting each character’s quirks shine – Obelix can crush iron crates and haul larger platforms, while Asterix darts around faster. Puzzles lean on a reusable torch that only Asterix can carry and on sliding ropes that appear in every Roman province, forcing you to think about who’s best suited for each obstacle. Helmets dropped by defeated Romans act as currency; ordinary helmets are worth one point, gold centurion helmets ten, and a travelling merchant swaps them for extra health or fresh attack combos. Magic potion gourds instantly boost Asterix, granting a triple‑jump, one‑hit kills and a temporary speed surge, and a second potion triggers a shockwave that disarms nearby foes. Combat is a mix of hand‑to‑hand bashing, lasso‑style swings of dazed enemies, and Dogmatix’s bite‑induced weapon drops, while each province ends with a massive war machine boss, catapult shortcuts, and hidden golden laurels that unlock cosmetic outfits.
Storyline
One ordinary day in the Gaulish village, Asterix, Obelix and their dog Dogmatix go hunting. A storm strikes a tree, Dogmatix runs off, and flames appear in the distance. Asterix rushes toward the fire while Obelix stays behind searching for the dog. At the blaze he meets a disgraced Roman secret agent who was fired by Caesar and now wants revenge. The agent agrees to help the heroes foil the Romans’ scheme.
Asterix returns to find his village burning and overrun by Roman troops, which he quickly defeats. He then travels across the countryside to a seaside hill where Obelix reunites with him, still without Dogmatix. The agent reveals that the Romans have kidnapped the villagers and are holding them on two distant barges. After a chase, the agent rescues Dogmatix and the trio battles more soldiers along a country road.
The fight ends at a locked wagon; Obelix forces it open and Getafix, the village druid, emerges. Getafix explains that Caesar plans to disperse the Gauls throughout the empire, marking each location on a marble map he later shattered. With the druid’s warning, Asterix, Obelix and Dogmatix set out for the first marked spot to rescue their friends.
