Summary

American Idol lets you step behind the curtain of the TV talent show and literally build a star from the ground up. You style your contestant, train them on vocal runs and dance moves, then battle through auditions, heats and, if you’re lucky, the grand finale by hitting the right button combos in time with the music. Miss a cue and the singer’s voice drops out of tune, the judges frown and the audience’s excitement wanes, so quick fingers are the only way to keep the performance alive.

The game pulls actual footage from the second season of the series – the one where Ruben Studdard took the crown – and wraps it in a rhythm‑action shell crafted by Hothouse Creations and published by Codemasters. Though it landed on PlayStation 2, Windows and the Game Boy Advance, the handheld version never gathered enough reviews to form a clear consensus.

Nintendo Power gave the GBA edition a modest 3.2 out of 5, hinting that while the concept shines, the execution feels a bit uneven on the portable console.
