Summary

Final Commando: Akai Yousai (sometimes called "Final Command: Red Fortress") drops you into a frantic rescue mission where your only hope for the captured brothers‑in‑arms is a heavily armed all‑terrain attack jeep. The vehicle’s guided missiles and incendiary grenades feel like a lifeline against the onslaught of cannons, tanks, submarines, snipers and even jet fighters that pepper the battlefield.

The FDS version, released on May 2 1988, plays out quite differently from its later NES counterpart. Stages scroll strictly vertically, are noticeably shorter, and feature altered layouts; the opening checkpoint is Baker instead of Alpha, and the final checkpoint (Zulu) contains no prisoners at all. These constraints stem from the disk‑card format, which limited the amount of content that could be packed onto the game.

Despite the trimmed down levels, the core challenge remains the same: you must weave through relentless crossfire and use every ounce of firepower at your disposal to free your comrades and push the enemy back.

Storyline

In Final Commando: Akai Yousai (often just called Final Commando), you lead the Jackal unit, an elite squad of four hardened soldiers. The team consists of Colonel Decker, Lieutenant Bob, Sergeant Quint, and Corporal Grey, each trained to survive any environment. Their objective is to plunge deep into enemy territory behind two armed jeeps. The mission focuses on rescuing and extracting captured prisoners of war. The game’s narrative centers on this high‑risk rescue operation.
