Summary
Electrician puts you in the role of Richard Light, an electrician threading live wire through the service corridors of apartment blocks. You must join each room’s circuitry while rats, bats and oversized insects chew the cables—touching them costs a life. Completed connections flash brightly, electrocuting any critter on contact and granting points. A burglar may randomly appear; intercepting him yields bonus points and an extra life.
After wiring every room you exit the building and slip into a dark sewer swarming with alligators, using a weak flashlight that also marks hidden walls. The game debuted on Atari 8‑bit computers in 1984 as part of Synapse Software’s “Double Play” disk, sharing the media with New York City. Kemco adapted it for the Family Computer Disk System in 1986, giving Japanese audiences a chance to spark wires on the Famicom. Its mix of platform puzzling and electric‑shock action still feels oddly satisfying for retro fans.
Storyline
Electrician (often just called Electrician on the Famicom Disk System) puts you in the shoes of electrician Richard Light. He wanders the cramped service corridors of apartment blocks, connecting wires from room to room. Each successful live connection flashes brightly and can zap any critters that try to chew the cables. Rats, bats and oversized insects constantly crawl toward the wires, forcing you to time your connections carefully. Occasionally a burglar shows up; catching him rewards extra points and even an extra life.
The game’s core challenge is to complete every wiring job while avoiding the hazards. When a room’s wiring is finished, Richard must move on, and the building’s layout forces you to plan routes that minimize exposure to the pests. The flashing connections act as both a tool and a weapon, turning the electrical current into a defensive blast.
After all rooms are wired, the level doesn’t end. Richard must exit through a dark sewer, where alligators lurk in the water. A flashlight reveals hidden walls, letting you navigate the murky tunnels and reach safety.
