Summary

All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros. was handed out as a contest prize by the long‑running Japanese radio show All Night Nippon to mark its twentieth anniversary. The disk is essentially a graphical remix of the original platformer, with a handful of levels lifted straight from the Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2. Its most eye‑catching feature is the swap‑out of familiar sprites for caricatures of music idols, DJs and other personalities tied to the broadcast, turning Goombas and mushroom retainers into recognizable celebrities. The game also inherits the slightly upgraded graphics and altered physics that made the Japanese SMB 2 feel a bit different from its Western counterpart. Because only a few thousand copies ever left the studio, collectors now chase it for close to $500, and a fan‑made open‑source remaster called Super Mario Bros. Remastered dropped in September 2025, bundling the original All Night Nippon content as bonus material.
