Summary
Prophecy I – The Viking Child landed on the Atari Lynx in 1991 as a colorful action romp that feels like a handheld homage to Sega’s Wonder Boy in Monster Land. The game’s core loop revolves around hunting down hidden gold, swapping out weapons for stronger versions, and stopping by quirky shops to stock up before the next challenge. Because there’s no save system, the Lynx version hands you passwords after each stage, letting you jump back into later levels without starting over. Development credits are a small‑team affair: Mark Fisher handled the programming, Anthony Rosbottom supplied the sprite work, and the soundtrack pulses thanks to Barry Leitch and Ian Howe. IGN’s Robert A. Jung gave the portable version a solid 7 / 10, calling it a pleasant diversion that never quite reaches the polish of its inspirations.
