Summary

Toki on the Atari Lynx captures the quirky charm of the original arcade hit, letting you guide an enchanted ape through jungle‑filled stages while blasting foes with energy balls from his mouth. The game mixes run‑and‑gun action with tongue‑in‑cheek humor, and each level is timed, pushing you to keep moving despite the ape’s deliberate pace. Along the way you can snag a variety of power‑ups: rabbit‑foot boosts for extra agility, clocks that extend the countdown, fruit for bonus points, keys that open secret areas, and a comically oversized football‑style helmet that shields you from upward attacks. Collecting enough magic coins (or food in other versions) nets an extra life, while extra lives themselves are scattered throughout. Taito’s Lynx port stays true to the arcade’s frantic feel, delivering a portable dose of nostalgic platform mayhem.

Storyline

Toki, a muscular, loincloth‑clad tribesman who lives a simple life in the jungles of a South‑Sea island, is the hero of the Atari Lynx game Toki. His world is shattered when Vookimedlo, a treacherous witch‑doctor, kidnaps the tribe’s princess Miho and drags her to a golden palace perched on the island’s summit. Vookimedlo then casts a spell that turns every human on the island into beasts, and transforms Toki himself into a Geeshergam – an ape‑like creature that looks much like a gorilla. Despite the transformation, Toki keeps his mind and gains the ability to breathe fire and launch projectiles from his mouth.

Determined to save Miho and break the curse, Toki embarks on a perilous trek across murky lakes, steep canyons, icy mountain peaks and lava‑spitting volcanoes. Along the way he battles swarms of jungle monsters, mutated creations of Vookimedlo and powerful guardians that serve as level bosses. The player controls this enchanted ape, firing energy balls from its mouth to defeat the enemies. The ultimate goal is to defeat the evil wizard, restore Toki to his human form, and rescue the kidnapped princess.
