Summary
Scrapyard Dog tosses you into a colourful 2‑D side‑scrolling trek as Louie, a kid determined to reclaim his dog from the criminal Mr. Big. The lynx version stretches the adventure across 33 distinct stages, each stamped with a different vibe—rusty junkyards, leafy forests, scorching deserts, and more. While the original Atari 7800 offered 17 stages, the handheld’s extra levels keep the pace brisk and the challenges fresh, with dozens of platforming hurdles and quirky enemy types peppering the route.
Critics responded warmly: GamePro gave the 7800 run a 19‑out‑25, while the Lynx port snagged an 8/10 from IGN and lofty marks in European mags (up to 89%). Robert Jung highlighted its "cute graphics, simple plot, and clean fun for players of all ages." Retrospective fans still rate it around 3½⁄5, applauding its urban‑blighted atmosphere and surprise set‑pieces, even as they note some jumps feel unforgiving.
Storyline
In Scrapyard Dog you play as Louie, a determined guy whose beloved pooch Scraps has been snatched by the crime boss Mr. Big. The thugs behind the kidnapping are after the deed to the scrapyard, forcing Louie into a gritty showdown. Across 15 perilous levels you battle through junk‑filled corridors, avoid traps, and take down henchmen while searching for clues about the dog’s whereabouts. Each stage ramps up the danger, testing your reflexes and timing as you fight to stay alive. The ultimate goal is to confront Mr. Big, rescue Scraps, and put an end to the scrap‑yard schemers once and for all.
