Summary
S.T.U.N. Runner thrusts you into a neon‑lit tunnel where a sleek, polygonal hover‑craft rockets past scenery at more than 900 mph. The Lynx’s tiny screen still manages the feeling of depth, thanks to Atari’s Hard Drivin’‑derived engine and a custom cabinet that looked like the ship itself.
Twin triggers let you fire laser cannons while the Start button deploys a Shockwave "smart bomb" that wipes the screen clean. Boost pads turn you temporarily invulnerable and pump your speed, forcing you to plan the perfect line for every time‑trial.
The project started as a re‑imagining of the old Tunnel Hunt, then grew into an original 3‑D racer. D. Scott Williamson coded the portable version, later founding Solid Software, and his work kept the fast‑paced arcade thrill alive on the Lynx.
Decades later the title resurfaced in Midway Arcade Treasures 3, proving that a tunnel sprint at 900 mph still feels fresh for anyone craving retro velocity.
