Summary

The Atari Lynx version of Qix brings the arcade’s abstract puzzle to a pocket‑sized screen, letting you chase the ever‑shifting geometric Qix while the handheld’s bright LCD flashes each captured slice. The game’s core loop stays true to the original: you guide a diamond‑shaped marker along the border, then press one of two buttons to draw a Stix into the empty field and seal off a region. On the Lynx, the four‑direction stick and the “Slow Draw” and “Fast Draw” buttons feel surprisingly responsive, letting you trade speed for double‑point bonuses when you take your time.

Every time the Qix or a Sparx bumps into an unfinished line, the fuse ignites and races back toward you, turning a simple line‑draw into a tense race against a ticking timer. The handheld’s limited screen real‑estate makes the 75 % fill‑goal feel both urgent and rewarding, especially as the game ramps up with extra Sparx and, from level three onward, a second Qix to split.

What keeps me coming back is the minimalist elegance of the Lynx’s version: a handful of controls, a constantly moving enemy, and the pure satisfaction of watching a newly claimed area fill with color while the synth‑style sound cues celebrate each successful capture.
