Summary
The Lynx version of Lemmings feels like a love‑letter to the original, but with a handheld’s modest canvas. The graphics are noticeably trimmed down – the screen is smaller, the resolution drops, and even the intro movie looks like a pixel‑shrunken trailer, while the soundtrack is reduced to 8‑bit chiptunes. One of the most jarring quirks is the forced pause whenever you select a lemming’s skill; the game literally stops, turning a frantic puzzle into a stop‑and‑think exercise that many fans found frustrating. On the bright side, the port packs a surprising amount of options and even a password system, which reviewers praised for extending replay value. Scores reflect the split opinion: Electronic Gaming Monthly gave it a modest 6.8/10, while IGN awarded a solid 9/10, noting the depth of features despite the visual compromises.
Storyline
In Lemmings for the Atari Lynx, you are the sole member of the Save The Lemmings Foundation. Your mission is to shepherd the tiny, clueless lemmings to safety before they discover they have no landing gear. The game puts you in charge of directing these munchkins through hazardous terrain, using a handful of abilities to keep them alive. Every level is a race against time and the lemmings’ own curiosity.
