Summary
Gordo 106 – The Mutated Lab Monkey is a side‑scrolling platformer that lets you guide a surprisingly clever lab monkey through six sprawling laboratory zones. You fling collected apples with the A button, aim the arc by holding up or down, and replenish his health with bananas scattered around each stage. Falling into a pit drops you into a lava‑lined dungeon where extra caged animals await rescue, and the status screen (Option 1) tallies freed cages, bonus points, and remaining lives. The Lynx’s D‑pad handles movement, a double‑tap triggers a sprint, and the B button lets Gordo swing from hanging objects, adding a bit of spider‑like agility to the monkey’s repertoire.
The game’s origins trace back to FM Waves co‑founder Efraim Wyeth, who pivoted from a Spider‑Man‑inspired concept to a radiation‑enhanced primate after a meeting with Jack Tramiel. Developed in 1991 by David Brevik and the Schaefer brothers—future Blizzard North talent—Alex Rudis supplied one of his final Lynx scores. Released late in the Lynx’s life cycle, Gordo 106 earned mixed reviews: critics slammed its choppy frame rate and clunky controls, though a few praised its parallax scrolling. An SNES remake was planned by Atomic Games but never saw the light of day.
Storyline
Gordo 106 – The Mutated Lab Monkey drops you into the shoes of Gordo, an exploited laboratory monkey who manages to free himself from cage 106 inside the N. Human Laboratories complex.
A radiation experiment unintentionally gives Gordo intelligence, and he must traverse six distinct areas of the facility, battling scientists and employees while liberating his fellow animal test subjects. The storyline follows his revenge‑driven escape, turning the once‑caged primate into a reluctant hero determined to bring the lab down.
