Summary

Electrocop bursts onto the Atari Lynx as a frantic, third‑person shooter that hands you a one‑hour countdown to rescue the president’s daughter. The streets are patrolled by a quirky cast of robot foes – Walker, Python, Mine, Wall Cannon, Virus and Stringray – and each level is gate‑kept by a hacking console where you browse Information directories, activate Programs to stun enemies, or kill time with tiny games called Meteors, Letter Puzzle and Out Break. Med‑packs restore health, weapon repair fixes damage, and a variety of armaments keep the action moving.

Development pre‑dated any working Lynx; Greg Omi and his team wrote an emulator on an Amiga, consulted with Blue Lightning’s Stephen Landrum for 3‑D perspective tricks, and built an introductory engine that would later resurface in titles like Blue Lightning. Though mixed reviews noted repetitive gameplay, critics couldn’t ignore the pseudo‑3D graphics and synth‑driven sound.

A modern emulated release now adds save slots, controller remapping and visual scaling, while a rumored Atari 7800 version remains a lost prototype, with only concept art by Amy Hennig surfacing online.

Storyline

Electrocop drops you into a neon‑lit, futuristic Washington, D.C. in the year 2069. You play as the titular robot built by MegaCorp, tasked with breaching the Steel Complex fortress before time runs out. The Criminal Brain, an evil mastermind robot, has kidnapped the President’s first daughter and is demanding a ransom while threatening to kill her.

Inside the complex, corridors twist into maze‑like passages filled with hostile robots and deadly traps. Hidden weapons and computer terminals must be located to disable security systems and push deeper toward the captive. Every second counts as the countdown ticks toward disaster.

Your mission is simple: rescue the President’s daughter, stop the Criminal Brain, and prove that justice still has a pulse in this high‑tech dystopia.
